Consumption Of Slender Soda Helped Persons Lose Weight Essay

Abstract A previous research project sought to determine if consumption of Slender-soda helped persons lose weight. However, the study was flawed in that it studied persons who already had modest body mass indices. Hence; a proposal is made for an improved study with a problem statement, proposed research question, and hypothesis. The target population and sample are identified, along with ways to establish reliability, increase validity, and minimize bias. Introduction Obesity has been recognized as a major problem in the US, driving a market for weight-loss products of more than $60 billion per year (Fitness for Weight Loss, 2016). Not surprisingly, Americans would be very interested in finding a beverage which would be easy to take, and which would accelerate weight loss. It might have seemed, based on a study, that Slender-soda would be just that product. However; this original research was conducted on people who were already fairly lean, with Body Mass Indices (BMI’s) of 22 or less. Most Americans have a high BMI of 25 or more. Therefore, the goal of this proposed research is to empirically test the efficacy of the product in an improved manner. Analysis: Original Slender-Soda Research Project The original research project led to very questionable results, for three basic reasons. The first and most obvious reason is that the participants had an average BMI which was already lower than most Americans.
